For Real

Last Wednesday I saw what turned out to be the last show for For Real For Real. I arrived at the Delancey about 15 minutes before their midnight set and ran into Derrick at the bar. He said that the schedule was way behind, there were two bands still to go before they went on and it was causing more than a little tension with the band. I settled down on a couch with a beer and prepared to wait it out.
Derrick and I talked for a bit despite the extraordinary volumes acheived in the small basement space. Anyone that knows me knows that once the volume gets to a certain level. my voice just gives out and I might as well use sign language or flash cards. That's when it's time for smile and nod mode and I just hope for the best.
After a bit of unpleasantness with the band right before, For Real For Real went on around 1 AM (actually looking now at the photos that I uploaded to Flickr, they went on closer to 12:30 I believe). The set was really good and they sounded great, but the damage was already done. By the end of the last song it was pretty clear that is was over.
So here are a few photos from that night...
you're freaking kidding me. I had two separate invitations to go "to the Delancey" from two guys (none were you charles, what am i chopped liver?! eh hem!) but neither of these blokes had the intelligence to mention that For Real was playing (which would have probably gotten me off my roof). Thus, I stayed in conversation with my friend and didn't go out.
I saw them just a couple weeks ago, they seemed good/fine! Ugh. they're broken up? That's the way all breakups happen I guess.
Damn, Derrick is a fantastic rock star. I will miss watching him. Hope he finds someone new soon.
they broke up, for real. :[

It was a truly weird night, though... and a very late late night as well. You probably went to the better show.
Derrick told me he already has an offer to play guitar for another band, so it probably won't be long before he's back on the stage.
Posted by: charles at September 29, 2005 11:41 AMgood good, because he's great and a disciplined/talented person to have, and makes super cool faces. i had a pretty late night too, but probably less noisy.
glad i'm not chopped liver, maybe at least i am well formed pate...with thinly sliced gerkins on french bread. mmmm
