Lez Zeppelin
Lez Zeppelin! Woo hoo! The all female Led Zeppelin Tribute band. I saw them tonight at the Mercury Lounge and they were so cool. The sound was right on, and their drummer is a powerhouse. There were a couple sloppy parts here and there, but hell, remember Led Zeppelin at Live Aid? Yeah. Lez Zeppelin kicks ass.
They opened with Good Times Bad Times, and then proceeded to burn through the early Zeppelin catalogue. Misty Mountain Hop was a big highlight. They nailed that one. Also, How Many More Times, What is and What Should Never Be, Rock and Roll, Immigrant Song, Heartbreaker, The Ocean, Your Time is Going to Come, Babe, I'm Going to Leave You and Black Dog. Amazing.
The guitarist even brought out the bow for a couple of numbers and had a Theremin on hand for Whole Lotta Love. At one point in the show she brought out the double neck guitar and announced to the crowd, "You know there are only two songs it might be." Mercifully, it was the second: Song Remains the Same, and Stairway to Heaven went unplayed.
I am not a fan of tribute bands at all, but there is something quite satisfying about seeing Led Zeppelin performed this way. Maybe it was just the honest and earnest interpretation of the music, or maybe the "ok, you have my attention" factor backed up with superb musicanship. I am not sure. But one thing is for sure, it was such a cool show that I put myself on the mailing list and I am going to start thinking of people that I am going to make come with me next time. That Roberta Plant is a hottie.
Indeed. They are a lot of fun. You should definitely go and get yer Lez out.
